Xen grew up on the streets of Betelgeuse in the Capellan Confederation. Imprisoned at a young age for grand theft, he was denied citizenship status. While in prison, he made connections with a group of outlaws and pirates known as Jameson's Gang. Eventually when he was released from prison at the age of sixteen, he abandoned his post in the Servitor caste and connected with members of the Jameson Gang in the Chaos March. Under their tutelage, he learned how to operate a battlemech and joined the Gang on several daring expoits against his former nation and other planets in the Chaos March. However, the ruthlessness of the Jameson Gang eventually proved too much for him and he fled the gang. He went to Outreach where he sought employment with a legitimate mercenary group. He found Braga's Buzzing Bees and quickly joined up.

Xen is the most street smart member of the Flaming Devil Monkeys and still has many connections (and many enemies) in the underworld. He has tried to make peace with his turbulent past and hopes that he can do some good in the future to redeem himself.

Xen's callsign has undergone some evolution. It was originally "X-man" in reference to his alliterative name, but was shortened to "X" over time. After his actions on Tohelet where he decapitated an Axman in melee and put his hatchet into the gyro of an Awesome, the other Monkeys started calling him "Axe" and the nickname has stuck. Ironically, he decapitated the Axman with a kick from above rather than with his hatchet.

Following the action on Acamar, Xen was able to upgrade from his Stinger to a Spector. However, the Spector was destroyed by Word of Blake forces during the action on Dieron. Upon returning to Solaris VII, the Monkeys were able to purchase a Wraith for Xen's use. Xen used the Wraith effectively in several fights, but when the Monkeys salvaged a Nightsky, Xen switched to it, after Abe Ford had it customized for mobile close combat.
